Naga (ナーガ Nāga) is a monstrously long giant oarfish (Regalecus glesne) in The Ocean Hunter. It is the second and final sub boss in Tartarus Deep.

The Ocean Hunter[]

After defeating Scylla, Torel and Chris will fight off a few hordes of lanternfish and gulper eels before approaching the ruins of an underwater operation. Shortly after passing by and fighting a few lanternfish and gulper eels, the two will encounter Naga.

Gameplay[]

Sunburst Area/Vulnerable Area: Entire body
Sweet Spot/Weakpoint: Sides (aim at chin)

For the entire duration of the battle, Naga will swim around before attempting to bite the player(s). As the in-game dialogue suggests ("Shoot shoot shoot!") after Naga's introduction, the player(s) must fire continuously at Naga. Naga will continue to attack the player(s) unless the player(s) have completely depleted its health.

Etymology[]

The name Naga means "snake" or "cobra" in Sanskrit.

Naga refers to a race of semidivine serpent creatures in Hindu and Buddhist mythology. They are usually depicted as a man or woman with the lower torso of a snake, but they can also change shape to appear fully human or snake. Depending on mythology, they are depicted as either demons or friendly gods. They are also associated with waters - rivers, lakes, seas - and are guardians of treasure.

In Indonesian and Malay language, Naga means "dragon". Coincidentally, oarfishes are often linked to myths about the Palace of the Dragon King (Ryuugujou) in Japan.
